![]() ![]() You can have MMOs without really any HUD, so I don't buy that argument/association one bit. ![]() That IRC Chat protocol could easily be turn off in single-player mode if BOTH MODES has a reliable and decent dialogue system to talk to the NPCs with. It's not an acceptable feature for ANY group. The current dialogue system with NPCs is regardless of whenever it's online or offline. Elder Scrolls Online (to name one example) also has active combat. "Active combat" isn't even something that is specific to single-player either. The only real difference is that the buttons are invisible. It's just got 2-3 buttons (one of them being the dragon shout) instead of 8 or 10. Skyrim's "hotbar" is left-click, right-click and whatever triggers your shouts that you can map to specific spells. In fact all of the games that I just listed don't have anything remotely close to "active combat" and they're considered some of the best RPGs out there. Ultima 7 doesn't have a hotbar because the combat is practically automated and it boils down to "attack with sword until dead". Pillars of Eternity (a game you previously gave as an example of "true" single-player experience) has hotbars. The mechanics would be totally different. For me this is the difference between an MMO that can be played offline and a SP game that can be played online. Such things make SotA feel like an MMO, even in offline mode. UI/HUD - Looks like it is designed for an MMO - in SP I wouldn't need a HUD at all. ![]() Monster placing - Feels as if monsters are placed for as many players to kill them as often as possible - doesn't really make sense for the SP part (but this will change later in offline) They feel like social hubs and as if they are just designed for housing - not very atmospheric for the SP part. The dialogue system - it is a IRC Chat protocol - good for the MMO part as you can talk to other players simultaneously but not very atmospheric for a SP game.Ĭities - Too big with too much housing. A hotbar combat system is meant for an MMO - a true single player RPG would be more fun with an active combat system like in Skyrim - a compromise that has been made at the expense of the SP mode, but ok, I accept that. ![]() Click to expand.I think the difference lies in the mechanics and how the world is presented.įor example combat. ![]()
